Tomb Raider Film Reboot Based on Game Reboot

Talk about redundancy. A new report from Variety suggests that we'll be seeing Lara Croft on the silver screen once more. The new film will be based on the recently released video game reboot of the franchise that details the early adulthood of the young andventurer/treasure hunter.

Crystal Dynamics is working up close and personal with GK Films to develop the reboot. This move mirrors that of Ubisoft's stern decision to command complete control over the movie process instead of licensing off the film rights to a bigger studio. (Ubisoft currently has Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell in pre-production)

"They are working from this new take that we’ve given them," Darrell Gallagher, boss of Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics said of GK Films. “It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens.”

"It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise," Gallagher said. "We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films."

The Tomb Raider video game reboot has faired quite well in reviews but you can decide for yourself. It's out now!

Who would you like to star as a young Lara Croft?
