GTA V PC Petition reaches 100,000

Rockstar Studios has announced that their upcoming release, Grand Theft Auto V, will be coming out on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, failing to mention the possibility of a PC release or port.
This has prompted some fans to sign a petition asking for the game to be released on PC. From the petition's post:
To: Rockstar Games
Please release GTA V on PC. GTA games have been a large part of so many people's lives and it's a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform. Things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.
The petition has recently reached 100,000 signatures and is going on to try and get 150,000 people.
Rockstar has yet to comment on the petition or the possibility of GTA V being released on PC.
GTA V is scheduled to be released in Spring 2013.

Humble Bundle Announces THQ Bundle

Humble Bundle today announced it's newest bundle titled "The Humble THQ Bundle," which includes the games Saints Row: The Third, Red Faction: Armageddon, Metro 2033, Darksiders, and Company of Heroes, CoH: Tales of Valor, and CoH: Opposing Fronts.
While other Humble Bundles allow you to pay whatever you want in order to get the games, down to one cent, this new bundle requires that you pay at least one dollar. In order to unlock Saints Row, buyers will have to beat the average price consumers have paid, which at time of post is $5.29.
All these games work exclusively on Windows, and separately would cost almost $190.
The bundle so far has raised over $400,000, and with 13 days left that number is sure to grow. Head over to the Humble Bundle website in order to throw your support behind this opportunity.

Charlize Theron Starring in Lady Vengeance Remake

At first glance this announcement made me upset; most of Hollywood's remakes are rubbish and in relation to the original(s) it just doesn't match up. I.E. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (The Millennium Trilogy), The Eye, Let the Right One In (Let Me In), Quarantine (REC), The Grudge (Ju-On), etc etc.

Park Chan-Wook is one of my favorite directors for films like Oldboy, which is well underway in its remake production directed by Spike Lee and starring Josh Brolin, and I Saw the Devil. Now Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is being remade with Charlize Theron starring.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Lady Vengeance “is the story of a woman who for reasons of her own completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, reemerging to punish the killer, and avenge the dead.” The film is the final chapter in Park’s “Vengeance Trilogy” following Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy. While Oldboy is my favorite of the three, Lady Vengeance is a close second. Theron is a strong choice for the lead role, and I’m curious to see what Oscar-winner William Monahan (The Departed) will do with the script. The press release says he’s “adapting” the original, but that could mean he’ll serve as both writer and director or as the writer only. He previously directed London Boulevard and will next direct Mojave.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is a great film that showcases the lead actress and her determination for revenge. Great film. Lets hope Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance doesn't get remade; that is by far the oddest of the trilogy and frankly not worthy of remaking.

Here’s the press release:

Annapurna Pictures, Denver & Delilah Films and CJ Entertainment Partner for SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE Adaptation by William Monahan

Oscar® Winners Charlize Theron to Star and William Monahan to Adapt Final Chapter of Park Chan-wook’s Acclaimed Revenge Trilogy

Los Angeles, CA (November 28, 2012) – Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films, CJ Entertainment, and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures have partnered to produce an adaptation by William Monahan of Park Chan-wook’s SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE.

Theron will star as well as produce with Denver & Delilah partner Beth Kono, Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison and Chelsea Barnard, CJ Entertainment’s Ted Kim, and William Monahan. Justine Suzanne Jones of Henceforth Pictures, AJ Dix of Denver & Delilah, Ted Schipper of Annapurna Pictures and Miky Lee of CJ Entertainment will executive produce. Ellison and Annapurna Pictures will finance the film. Panorama Media will serve as the international sales agent.

LADY VENGEANCE is the story of a woman who for reasons of her own completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, reemerging to punish the killer, and avenge the dead.

“This will be very American – and very unexpected,” says Monahan. “Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”

A dramatist, director and novelist, William Monahan recently completed the screenplay for THE GAMBLER for Martin Scorsese at Paramount, and Robert Rodriguez’s SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. He will next direct MOJAVE, an original thriller. He won an Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay for THE DEPARTED, directed by Martin Scorsese, which earned four Oscars®, including Best Picture. His production company, Henceforth Pictures, has a number of feature and television projects in development, including a screen adaptation of his first novel, Light House: A Trifle, and “The Throwaways”, a New Yorker piece by journalist Sarah Stillman.

Update on the God of War Movie

The writing team of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are at work on a big screen adaptation of the God of War video game series. The duo were brought in to overhaul a screenplay by David Self. While they have to keep mum about story specifics, they were able to discuss how God of War will be different from similarly-themed films like the Clash of the Titans films and Immortals.

"Those movies can inform the God of War to step in a more bold direction," said Dunstan. "Not to join those ranks, but to stand head and shoulders apart like other reinventions have done within that genre. The satisfying element is to look at those movies as a commentary on the genre and now say something different."

Melton added, "Sony games, you think they'd be sacred about the origin story and all of that, but they were encouraging us to make it different from those movies and if that means going in dramatic shifts, they were cool of it. And they're involved."

Details on Bungie's next game leaked

IGN.com received leaked materials about Bungie's upcoming game titled Destiny.
Bungie, most famous for their creation and continued work on the Halo franchise, has since updated their website with concept art from their next release. IGN's leaked materials also included concept art, as well as a synopsis of the game's story, which reads:
"'Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young "knights" tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.' Elsewhere in the document, the massive alien ship is referred to as 'the Traveler.'"-IGN.com
The game so far has been advertised as being in development for PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as maybe the PC in the future.

First Image From V/H/S Sequel

It was just under a year ago that horror anthology V/H/S caused a stir at Sundance, the high profile project leaving audiences buzzing. At least the ones who didn't faint. And now the producers behind that project are at it again with a new anthology titled S-VHS

As previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the directors this time out include Gareth Evans (The Raid) co-directing with Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre); Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) co-directing with his long time producer Greg Hale; Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun); Adam Wingard (You're Next) and writer Simon Barrett making his directorial debut.

Stewart & McKellen Join X-Men: Days of Future Past

It's been long rumored that these iconic actors would reprise their roles as the infamous duo turned enemies. Now it is confirmed that Brian Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will feature Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult.

Scheduled for release on July 18, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past boasts a script by Simon Kinberg and is said to be inspired Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book storyline that ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981. "Days of Future Past" introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

Although not yet officially listed, Singer's "more to come" is likely to also include Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. In addition to playing a key role in the comic book version of the story, Wolverine has appeared in every live-action X-Men film to date and will star in his second solo adventure with the July 26 release The Wolverine.

Will Thor Return in Snow White 2?

In Empire Magazine, Chris Hemsworth was asked when there will be a second “Snow White and the Huntsman”.

He had this to say;
“No one had heard anything official. I haven't actually spoken to anyone from Universal about it. I guess it all depends on whether people want to see another one! I love the character. It changed a lot, and there were a lot of things we lost in the final cut. There was a bit more backstory that didn't fit in and a bit more of a relationship between them. There was just more to the character I wish we'd hung on to.”

It is reported that Kirsten Stewart will be back to reprise her role, but the director Rupert Sanders won’t be back to helm.
I haven’t seen the first film, but from what I heard it’s a good movie. I’m interested in what direction they will take in the sequel.

Spielberg Could Have Directed Bond Films

While on a press junket promoting his latest film “Lincoln,” Steven Spielberg was asked whether he would be interested in ever directing a James Bond installment. The director replied: "I went to producer [Cubby Broccoli] and I asked if I could do [a James Bond film] and he said, 'No.' I've never asked again. Instead, I made the 'Indiana Jones' series."

Just imagine a world were Spielberg directed Bond, it would be surreal. I’m pretty sure the reason why this did not happen is because of money or a personal distaste for Spielberg. Either way, cinematography would be in a very different place if Spielberg had done Bond and Indiana Jones never existed.

Wii Mini Announced

Nintendo confirmed rumors of a new version of their previous console the Wii by announcing the Wii Mini today.
The new console, which will be released on December 7, is only coming to Canada for the immediate future for $99.99. Rather than a disk tray, the console will have players load their disks in from the top-much like the GameCube. However, the Wii Mini won't have any backwards compatibility with GameCube games, nor will it have the ability to go online in any way.
No dates have been revealed as to when the international release for the Wii Mini is coming. For more information, check out the official website here.

Wii U Sells 400,000 Units

Nintendo sold over a million hardware during the last week, which included the launch of their new next generation console the Wii U, CNET reported today.
The figure includes 400,000 Wii Us, 300,000 Wiis, and more than 500,000 portable devices, such as the 3DS and DS, sold.Nintendo of America's President, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that the Wii U is "essentially sold out of retail," a fact reminiscent of its predecessor, the Wii, which was notoriously hard to find during the first few months of it launching.
Nintendo hopes to not relive those shortages with its new console."We've certainly learned many lessons from that and we are replenishing retailers more quickly this time around," Fils-Aime told CNET.
The Wii U launched on November 18 at $299.99.

Wii U: Next Gen Tech or Current Gen?

With the first console of the eighth generation of gaming available to the public, the mystery behind the Wii U's hardware has finally been revealed. Since Sunday, the console has been selling everywhere in North America and the reactions have been mostly positive except for the few bugs which Nintendo will have to patch. As seen in all console launches, it is understandable that it is not perfect, but while Nintendo is taking care of these problems, find out what is the Wii U hiding under its hood.

The team called Anandtech are the ones who popped the hood and dug into the heart of the console. Even if a console is opened up and examined, it is always hard to know exactly what there is. Consequently, it is hard to know exactly the console's true potential. So, this is the closest we are going to get since Nintendo love to be silent on their product.

The teardown of the console brings some new information regarding the CPU, GPU and RAM of the Wii U. While it was already know that the Wii U had an AMD GPU and IBM CPU MCM (multi-chip model), Now we have the exact measurements. The GPU's die size is 12.2mm x 12.7mm (156.21mm2). On the other hand, the CPU's die size is 5.2mm x 6.3mm (32.7mm2) and there was found another miniscule die (1.79mm x 1.48mm) found on the MCM. Anandtech believes it is off-chip memory.

No exact specification can be set from this standpoint. However, it can be said that the GPU has come on-chip memory thanks to a previous teardown done by Nintendo themselves. This also means the die size increased as well. To picture it otherwise, take a 104mm2 Redwood core found in the Radeon HD 5670 and add some megs of eDRAM. Naturally, this is close to the 156.21mm2 die size the Wii U's GPU contains. The people at Extreme Tech assume that a 40nm process is being used. This type of GPU is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately, the CPU will not be able to do wonders for the console. The small multi-core Power-based CPU was made based on IBM's 45nm SOI process and it also has on-die eDRAM. The CPU is still a big mystery and it is rumored the Wii U simply took the Wii's Broadway core and multiplies it by three, since the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii. Extreme Tech suggest adding a few process node improvements and the Wii U's CPU would be "fairly competent".

For RAM, the Wii U has a Samsung NAND flash chip for user storage, 8GB for the white Wii U of the Basic Set and 32GB for the black Deluxe Set, a Toshiba NAND chip for non-user storage and a 2GB of Hynix DDR-1600 RAM on a 16-bit interface. This setup provides the Wii U a top memory bandwidth of 12.8GB/s. Even if this is twice as fast as the Wii, in today's standards, it's still quite slow.

Now let us jump to the famous Gamepad. The tablet controller has but one major problem: battery life. It only has a 5.6 watt-hour battery (1500mAh @ 3.7V). The Gamepad can stay off its charging cradle for around 3-4 hours before needing to put it back. This is a problem for those who play games for long sessions. At the very least, the battery is indeed replaceable and third-party batteries are also in the works, which may be able to extend battery power.

Now, even with bad battery power, the Gamepad has pretty wireless capabilities. Although the 6.2-inch touchscreen between your hands can be used for different needs (full gaming, mirrored screen or HUD-style display), the Gamepad functions thanks to a high-speed 802.11n WiFi connection which probably works perfectly up to 7.5m (25 feet) away from the console. Thanks to Anandtech's teardown, the Gamepad also has two WiFi antennae and controllers: one for online network connection and the other solely to ensure the Gamepad works flawlessly. This can be proven via gameplay as no lags or slowdowns occur from the Gamepad.

In terms of power consumption, the Wii U is very efficient as it uses only 31.2 watts in the main menu and 33 watts when New Super Mario Bros. U is popped in. This is probably the work of IBM and AMD making sure to pare down the power needed. Also, as many know already, Nintendo and Opera have not worked together this time. Like many smart devices today, the Wii U uses a WebKit-based browser made by NetFront, the people behind the browser for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The browser on the Wii U has excellent HTML5 support and JavaScript performance.
