3 Actors Up for "Harry Osborne" for The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

It wasn't long ago that word came that Jamie Foxx was cast as Electro in Marc Webb's sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Now the role of the infamous best-friend turned arch-nemesis "Harry Osborne" is up for grabs. Honestly James Franco's shoes will be hard to fill and in my opinion the only actor out of the three that could pull off the multidimensional personality as the heir to Oscorp is Chronicle's own Dane DeHaan or even a new candidate of my choosing; Jamie Bell.

The Hollywood Report indicates that casting for the part has shifted from a larger, athletic actor to someone "dark and edgy."
Below are pictures of the candidates: Left is Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene), Middle Dane DeHaan (Lawless, Chronicle), and right is Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker, Beautiful Creatures).

Hulk Fun, Hulk No Serious

With “Life of Pi” being released nation-wide Friday, it's director Ang Lee was asked about his previous film, “Hulk."

"I learned quite a bit about CG from 'Hulk,' and I wouldn't have been able to do 'Life of Pi' without that," he said. "But it's easier to create an animal, because there exists a good reference - so a tiger or a hyena is easier than a 2,000-pound rage monster. My problem is that I took the whole thing too seriously. I should have had more fun with it, instead of all the psychodrama."

So it looks like “Hulk “could have fun, in whatever way the Ang Lee considers Fun. Did he think “Brokeback Mountain” was fun? I’m not to sure. Anyone that says the 2003 “Hulk” is a bad movie compared to 2008 “Incredible Hulk” is crazy. I always wondered what a “Hulk” sequel could have been if they decided to not reboot it. If only there was a machine to see alternate realities, (James Cameron’s Spiderman, Batman and robin sequel, Spiderman 4). I want that machine for Christmas =(

The Man with the Iron Fists

The Man with the Iron Fists Review

Is iron a suitable replacement for the human hand? The blood in our hand contains iron, so doesn’t that make us all have iron fists? These are all questions we have to ask ourselves and a medical professional when we are in doubt.

Pre Conceived Impressions and Expectations

The first time I ever heard about this movie, I thought Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino, and some guy with a ridiculous name 'RZA' all making a Kung Fu movie, I was intrigued. All of Tarantino’s movies are hit or miss with me. I love “Reservoir Dogs”, but absolutely hate “Kill Bill”. Then I saw the "Quentin Tarantino Presents" banner on the poster and was worried. There has been a lot of junk that’s been released. I’m looking at you “Hell Ride." But I thought to myself, what do I have to lose if I don’t hype this up?!

The Film

Since his arrival in China's Jungle Village, the town's blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools for destruction. When the clans' brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people. It stars; RZA, Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu.

My Thoughts

Let’s throw the story out the door; This movie is about the fighting and craziness. It’s over the top but with style and is a great time if you judge the movie for what it is. If any of you are a fan of RZA’s previous work; “Wung-Tang Clan”. You know that the guy has a mad passion for the genre. In every scene there is attention to detail that is superb. But RZA does fail on actually making the film from a technical level. It’s not too severe that it takes you out of the experience. Everyone does a competent job for the part they are given, but don’t expect an award winning performance. The fight scenes are some of the best I’ve ever seen! There are moments that will blow you out of your seat and into the lap of some random stranger. Expect an awkward moment if it happens!

My Recommendation

Go see this movie, but don’t expect an amazing story, remember it’s about the craziness.
For these reasons I rank The Man with the Iron Fists an 8/10

Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell Film

Tom Hardy has signed on to star in "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell," Ubisoft's film adaptation of its popular videogame franchise that Eric Warren Singer will write for the company.

Project is the second major movie based on one of its properties that Ubisoft is looking to get on the bigscreen after setting up "Assassin's Creed" at New Regency and Fox, that Michael Fassbender will co-produce and headline.

"Splinter Cell" is not yet set up at a studio, although Ubisoft has had preliminary talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount.

Hardy will play Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special operative in a fictional black-ops operation called Echelon.

Thesp recently played Bane in WB's "The Dark Knight Rises" and is shooting "Mad Max: Fury Road."

Singer also penned Black List script "American Bullshit," which David O. Russell will direct with Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner set to star.

"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "His involvement in the 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story ... while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."

Game has sold more than 23 million copies since its debut in 2002. Six games have been released so far with "Splinter Cell: Blacklist," released next spring, developed by Ubisoft Toronto.

Offical Trailer: The Host

If you're not familiar with the name Stephanie Meyer, she has given pre-pubescent children their now laden fad of vampires in the form of Twilight. Before Ms. Meyer was writing about vampires vs werewolves in a cheap True Blood rip off sort of way she was busy with The Host. In my opinion this was a far superior book than the quadrilogy of Twililght.

View the newly released trailer for the film adaption below. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel and Max Irons. The Host opens March 29, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Host:

THE HOST is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.

Flight Review

"Flight" Review

Plane’s, Trains, and Automobiles, is a great flick. Full of heart, soul and fun. Flight on the other hand is an average film that is uninspiring. They both feature scenes on an aircraft but where does Flight fail?

Pre Conceived Impressions and Expectations

When I first heard that Robert Zemeckis is going back to live action my heart was full of joy. This great man directed classics that include; “Back to the Future trilogy”, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Forrest Gump" and “Cast Away”. Then one day in 2004, I saw the trailer to the “Polar Express” and my faith in the man was destroyed. Tom Hawks looked creepy with his dead eyes and the movie was a disaster in my opinion. Until 2012 we got “Beowulf”, “Christmas Carol” directed by him and “Mars needs Moms” that was produced by him. “Mars needs Moms” was an Epic box-office failure and I believe it made Zemeckis rethink his motion capture career. So in a nutshell, I wanted this film to be awesome. Knowing Denzel, Cheadle, Goodman all have main roles, this should have been the best thing since sliced bread. The premise didn’t look the most exciting but I thought that the story and acting were going to be great.

The Film

The film stars Denzel Washing as a commercial airline pilot named Whip Whitaker. (Who picked that dumb name!). Whip is declared a hero when he saves the passenger on the plane he was flying. In an NTSB investigation Whip’s blood is tested, and alcohol is found in his blood. Whips role as a hero is turned on a dime, as he is now charged for manslaughter.

My Thoughts

I really wanted the movie to be great. I went in with high expectations only to be let down. Performances from Washington, Leo, Cheadle and Greenwood were all ok. There was nothing specular about them or their roles at all. Flight could have been totally recasted and it would have had the same negative turnout. The only actor that gives it the most expected and highly anticipated A game was John Goodman. He was hilarious in the movie. The script was very well written, but the direction only hit on a moderate level. You couldn’t tell Robert Zemeckis directed this. It didn’t have heart or soul and fell very cold. At first I was uninspired by the CGI in the movie, but after thinking about it and watching the trailer a couple times. I feel that was very well done. The movie on a technical level is superb.

My Recommendation

Flight is a movie that you should walk in with no expectations. a good movie but it is far from great.

Recommended: Check out a matinée or on Blu-ray.

Flights scores a 7/10

Mortal Kombat Film is in Pre-Production

Warner Brothers has confirmed this movie is already in pre-production. Kevin Tancharoen who directed the youtube series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, will be bringing his vision of the series to the big screen. Warner Brothers has also revealed the budget of the film is between $40 and 50 million. There's no confirmed plot, but rumors suggest the film may follow "a supermarket employee who discovers he has otherworldly powers and must make the ultimate choice between fighting for the side of good or evil."

There is also no word on if the film will include characters and actors from the webseries. With that said there's no confirmation on if the series is a standalone project and the film will be set in a different time-frame or universe.

The Hobbit Comes with a Disclaimer About it's 48fps

The Hobbit will be the first 3D film shot at 48 frames per second that the mass public will watch. This is a monumental milestone in cinema and cinematography. The main reason why Peter Jackson decided to use the HFR 3D technology to capture 48 fps instead of the standard 24 fps is that it's easier for the eyes and mind to understand 3D; less flicker, less strobing.

Expendables 3 Announcement!

Speculation for an 'Expendables 3'!! Rumor has it that the producers were trying to pull some strings to add actors Clint Eastwood, Wesley Snipes, and Nicholas Cage. While Clint isn't the smartest choice for obvious reasons and Wesley is doing time behind bars, it seems the ever so famous Nicholas Cage will be the choice at hand! Does this mean an official announcement?

Sylvester Stallone helps clear the confirmation up for some of us. His recent Facebook post introduces Cage into the Expendables Family.

Announcement article in progress.

Mass Effect Film Gets New Screenwriter

Currently the Mass Effect motion picture is being supported by Legendary Pictures. In September 2011, screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) was working at “following and honoring the story” of the first Mass Effect game. Today, Variety is reporting that Protosevich’s draft is out, and they’re bringing in former assistant editor Morgan Davis Foehl to take a crack at the script.

The problem with bringing the Mass Effect universe into fruition on the big screen relies on a singular story-line. The games focus on a plethora of different character arcs, quest-lines, and big bad enemies to overcome, but for a feature film to work it would have to funnel all of the best ideas into a single cohesive plot. Reapers vs all life is a given plot point. But the Mass Effect universe is broad and full of stories. It's a guessing game about the synopsis until we hear otherwise.

Matt Damon may never return to the big screen as Jason Bourne

The Bourne trilogy, as we know it, is what made Matt Damon an action star for our generation. The first film was directed by Doug Liman and the next two installments directed by Paul Greengrass. The series was later rebooted with Jeremy Renner in the lead. Matt Damon was supposed to return to the famous role, but relations between Universal and Greengrass soured. Matt has said that “he will only return to the character if Greengrass returns.”

“From what I understand, ‘The Bourne Legacy’ relives ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ from a different perspective. Because they use ‘Ultimatum’ actors and characters, that means that we would have to continue a story that wasn't our creation and we’d have to acknowledge that in any Bourne movie that we’d do. And that makes it really tough.” - Matt Damon Movieline quote.

I might be in the minority here, but I’m not a huge fan of the Greengrass directed Bourne films. Watching them is like getting drunk without alcohol because of the shaky camera shots. In Cam Sky’s perfect world, Doug Liman would announce that he is the director of a new Jason Bourne movie. I absolutely love the first film! If Liman would return to the series it would be a dream come true. I’m not saying Greengrass’s films are bad, they are just driven by action packed, thriller sequences. Maybe not for everyone but, they do have great turnouts for each new release. So, who can blame them. I haven’t seen the Bourne Legecy with Jermeny Renner in the starring role, because the reviews didn’t look too great.

I think these films are due for a re-visit!

Does Batman drive a Kia?

What kind of car does Batman really drive? I don’t think we will ever know, but we do know that the fine folks at DC Entertainment have hearts of gold! The 'WE CAN BE HEROES' is a charity campaign to bring awareness to starvation in Africa. The purpose of the campaign is to generate funds to help the people of Africa.

The Kia Optima was designed by Jim Lee and is the first of eight different cars based on different members of the Justice League. I can’t wait to see the Aquaman version!

You can donate to this cause at www.wecanbeheroes.org!! Nothing but cheers and good faith around these people!

Paranormal Activity 3 Review

Paranormal Activity 3 Review

Pre Conceived Impressions and Expectations
After initially hearing about Paranormal Activities 3 I, like most of you, thought “Oh good lord another one?!”  When my ex-girlfriend dragged me to go see the first I loved the ending and needed more. The second film was awesome in my opinion but most people think the first was best simply because of the obvious, repetitive ambiance.
So walking into this movie I thought it would be awesome.  Running through a personal set of requirements: Set in the 80’s, Check. Best reviews, Check. Good word of mouth, Check. Question was, What could I have to lose?
The Film
The film is a prequel to both of the previous films, that takes place in 1988 and follows Katie and Krissy, as young girls. Two main additions to the cast are their mom and her new boyfriend (Dennis).  Playing out like the previous two movies in which they set up cameras to monitor any unwanted activity.  Keeping in mind the 1980‘s technology. Strange things start happening in the house as the video cameras capture the actions of the demon.  The main story is all about capturing the melodrama between the life of these girls.
My Thoughts
Remember the feeling you had after seeing the jumbled mess of a movie known as “The Hangover 2”?.  While I was watching this it felt that I could predict every move that was going to happen. That sort of feeling is not good to have while watching a horror movie.  The ending felt as if it ripped off the amazing  “The Last Exorcism” produced by Eli Roth. I thought the directing duo of “Catfish” could pull something off very different here. But I felt as if they had their hands tied, as the studio just wanted more of the same while playing it safe.
There are a couple interesting scenes that occur in the movie, like the sheet –babysitter scene or the Bloody Mary scene. The Bloody Mary gave more mythology but less mystery to the demon as you are provided with more of its figure.  The acting in the movie is good and gives audience what is known as “believability” in each scene.  I personally loved the performance of the boyfriend and the young girls.  They as a whole, make each intense moment worth watching!
My Recommendation
Sadly, the film feels like it’s a remake or another directors iteration.  On the other hand, If you love the Paranormal Activity series you will be right at home!  It is a series worth watching but don’t pay for that experience.  Its recommended to borrow them or check out your Netflix listings.  For these reasons I see that Paranormal Activity 3 ranks 6 out of 10 on TechFixations Grading Scale.
Rated - 6/10
Worth $30 for entire series if you havn’t already experienced the goose bumps for yourself!
