New Image from The Raid 2 a.k.a. Berandal

Director Gareth Evans has tweeted a new image from The Raid 2 showing a character badly injured brandishing a grenade. This image clarifies that the sequel will be just as violent and (hopefully) entertaining as the original.

In the tweet, Evans says that the image is from a shootout that they filmed yesterday.  Filming began at the end of January and was initially set to run for over 100 days. It's safe to say that if Evans is willing to tweet out this kind of imagery, it’s likely this is just the beginning of a bloody album.

The Raid 2 (aka Berandal) stars Iko Uwais, Tio Pakusadewo, Putra Arifin Scheunamann, Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad and Roy Marten.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Raid 2:
Picking up right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Avengers Assembled Blu-Ray Collection is Available

Some of you might be snarking at this article as outdated as Marvel was set to release this 10-disc set last year. The collection contained every Marvel-produced superhero movie so far (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Avengers (Capt, Thor and Avengers in Blu-ray 3D), plus a bonus disc. The problem was someone had forgotten to license the Tessaract-holding suitcase from the movie so the Avengers Assembled never assembled...

Now the suitcase has been altered, the exclusive props and replica files have been added, the extras have been set (“Never-before-seen deleted scenes, extended scenes, featurettes, animatics and more from each film”). At $150 this culmination of superhero scripts is a deal and a half.

Buy it Now on Amazon

You're Next Finally Releases a Trailer

I have waited almost two years to see this movie. Finally the first trailer for You're Next is now online.
This film completely devastated the audience at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and was almost immediately pulled down and hidden behind closed doors. Eleven days later Lionsgate bought the rights to the film and has cherished this movie ever since.

Ninja Turtles Has Been Cast

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, Ninja Turtles, is starting to take shape. Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) is set to play Raphael,  Pete Ploszek will play Leonardo, Jeremy Howard will play Donatello, and Noel Fisher will play Michelangelo.

Ploszek may be best known for his guest appearances on Parks and Recreation and Shameless. Fisher had a strong role Hatfields & McCoys, and he was in the cast of the final Twilight Saga film and also appeared in Battle: Los Angeles.  As for Howard, he has played a lot of guest-starring roles on shows including Breaking Bad, Suburgatory, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Ninja Turtles is due out June 6, 2014.

We Are Getting an Escape From New York Remake

[Update] Liam Neeson may star...
----------------------
[Original Article]

In what seems to be the outcome of a failed creative writing board John Carpenter's 1981 classic Escape From New York is being remade.

The film has been in remake limbo for years with many people wanting to give it a try. Now it is confirmed that Joel Silver and his Silver Pictures are teaming with StudioCanal for a new big screen take on Escape From New York.

Set in a dystopic future, John Carpenter's 1981 original starred Kurt Russell as a Snake Plissken, an eyed-patched convict sent into a maximum security prison (formerly the island of Manhattan) to rescue the President.

Here's some food for thought; The Crazies director Breck Eisner was previously attached and before that, Len Wiseman was planning a version that would have starred Gerard Butler in the Plissken role.

Hangover Part 3 Trailer Launched

If you've seen the first Hangover, then you know it is full of laughs and a good time. Part 2 was a little disappointing as it felt like the writers were scraping the bottom of the barrel for jokes and a plot. The trailer for Hangover Part 3 is funny and gives me hope that this trilogy will go out with a bang. Well, figuratively speaking, of course we don't want Allen to get shot or anything like that.

Watch the trailer here.

Of course there were many other topics that were discussed, but these were the biggest highlights. Personally, I think I have to go see Silver Linings Playbook now. I haven't payed much attention to it, but with all the nominations, it was obviously a much better movie than what I had guessed it would be. Also, I think I will have to give Lincoln a try too.

James McAvoy May be The Crow

The Crow series has a history of problems; whether it be financial or heartbreaking with Brandon Lee's death. The series has went through Lee, Vincent Pérez, Mark Dacascos, Eric Mabius, Edward Furlong, and now the long-awaited/not-needed reboot to The Crow may yet find its star in that of James McAvoy (Wanted, X-Men: First Class).

The planned reboot has been passed around a lot of people.

  • Stephen Norrington (Blade) was attached and Mark Wahlberg was offered the lead in 2010. That Fell through.
  • Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) was to helm with Bradley Cooper starring in 2011 but six months later Fresnadillo dropped out because Cooper payed more attention to his Paradise Lost role but then dropped out of that as well.
  • Now in 2013 F. Javier Gutierrez came on board to direct with Jesse Wigutow penning the script.

Bloody Disgusting does not confirm if McAvoy has been asked to appear as Eric Draven or if he is just interested in the project. We'll keep you informed when we learn more.

Frankly I'm happy with James McAvoy in almost any role. It may be a man crush but I could totally enjoy seeing him dawn the black face paint. I loathed the idea of a reboot with Mark Wahlberg and Bradley Cooper starring, but with McAoy I could see it turning into a clever project IF done correctly.

Paul Walker To Star In District B13 Remake

Pause and breath. If the headline made you angry then we have something in common, but don't be upset because this news isn't all bad.

Paul Walker, famous for his appearance and his ability to look like he drives cars, is already set to be the new agent 47 in an upcoming Hitman reboot. Now he’s got another action flick in the works; a remake of Banlieue 13, better known in the US as District B-13.

For those of you who are lost at the moment; Banlieue 13 and its sequel are French action movies based on parkour (free-running).

The remake is to be called Brick Mansions, and will be set in America rather than Paris. In an interesting twist, David Belle, the forefather of parkour and star of the original film and its sequel, will also appear. Walker’s character will be “an undercover detective chasing a weapon of mass destruction that was stolen by a drug dealer in the ghetto known as Brick Mansions. He seeks help from the incredibly agile Lino (Belle), who knows Brick Mansions better than anyone and is the only person not cowed by the drug dealers.”

The interesting news here is Luc Besson and EuropaCorp set Camille Delamarre to direct; Delamarre edited Taken 2 and Colombiana. I would much prefer Luc to remake his own movies but if he is warching over the whole production I' a bit more at ease. David Belle's presense also calm my nerves and makes me want to watch this when it releases. I would also love it if LiveWire and Daniel Ilabaca were cast.

If you have not seen these films please watch and enjoy.
More on this as we get it.

Star Wars Standalone Films Update

Entertainment Weekly reports that there are two potential spinoff movies in early stages of development at Lucasfilm:

"A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum."

"The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required."

Daniel Logan, who played the young Boba in Episode II and III, could easily reprise the role of Boba Fett for a new feature film that could continue with the spirit and passion of the previous saga. Boba Fett's life is extremely dense and entertaining so it would be a great candidate.

I don't know who would portray a young Han but he would have to be the same build as Harrison Ford, and I would prefer a new face or an up-and-coming underrated actor.

Both tales would include Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt and could even tie in together; Han and Boba do have a past...

JJ Abrams & Gabe Newell To Create Movies & Games Together

Filmmaker J.J. Abrams (Cloverfield, Star Trek, and Star Wars: Ep. VII) and game creator Gabe Newell (Half-Life, Portal) just announced they'll be working together in the future on creating movies and games.

"We sort of reached the point where we decided that we needed to do more than talk," Newell said of the partnership.

Could we see a Half-Life movie or is that too predictable?

This was mentioned on stage at the DICE Summit 2013 and it's still developing. We'll definitely follow this news.

Star Wars Will Have Standalone Films

Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed rumors that there are indeed standalone Star Wars movies in the works in addition to the next Star Wars trilogy.

In an interview with CNBC, Iger said the studio will make different Star Wars solo films during the same time frame as the new trilogy will be released. This goes back to what Kathleen Kennedy said about a Star Wars film being released every other year.

"We are in fact working on a few stand-alone films," said Iger. "(Lawrence) Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So we plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII and IX over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time too."

From this quote we can expect Episode VII to release in May of 2016. Star Wars has always released in May a week beofre George Lucas' birthday so the new trilogy should follow suit.

Iger would not confirm, deny or comment further on any of the Star Wars characters who might get their own standalone movies. Everyone from Yoda to Boba Fett to a Seven Samurai-style Jedi team film have been rumored as candidates for possible Star Wars spin-off movies.

Paul Walker IS Agent 47

It pains me to write this article because of the absurdity of the casting director's decision and how in the world was this voted on in a board meeting.

Blue eyed Paul Walker will shave off his blonde curls to play Agent 47 in the "reboot" of the popular video game series, set to be titled "Agent 47."

Justified's Timothy Olephant played the cloned assassin the in 2007 original and won me over with his attitude and demeanor, even though the film tanked overall. I'm curious why the decision on reboot since Hitman racked in $100 million worldwide, but is the reboot aimed to kickstart a new safa or is it destined to garrote-wire itself?

The Hitman reboot is scripted by Skip Woods and Mike Finch. Commercials director Aleksander Bach will make his feature film debut on the movie.
