[UPDATE] Zack Snyder Making Samurai Star Wars Film

[UPDATE] 8:22pm 1-14-13
Zack Snyder's rep has stated Snyder is not working on this project:

“While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan,” states the rep, “Zack is not involved in any way with Star Wars. He is currently in post [production] on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”

Rumors at Vulture today suggest that Man of Steel, Sucker Punch, 300, Watchmen, & Dawn of the Dead director Zack Snyder is prepping for an action film set in the Star Wars universe.

The site suggests that this new, temporarily untitled film, which is not in the planned trilogy would loosely remake Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, set in the past of George Lucas' sci-fi universe.

Snyder himself responded to rumors about him directing the highly-anticipated Episode VII late last year.

“I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it," Snyder told the LA Times. "I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.”

Now it appears that Snyder's comments could have been clever misdirection, hinting at his interest in the cinematic saga without revealing that his plans are unconnected to the new trilogy.
