The Raid: Redemption was, without a doubt, the best fight movie of 2012 if not the best in the past 25 years of film. The sequel to Gareth Evan's Silat-styled bloodbath is scheduled to start filming this month.
The Raid is an intense ride for its hero, Rama (Iko Uwais), and it seems that he has cardio for days. He barely made it out of the tower with his life. So how much time will he have to rest before a new batch of thugs attack him?
Two hours. He'll get two hours. If you watched this film you'll find the hilarity in that time frame.
Evans took to his Twitter page yesterday to tweet the following:
"Ok Raid 2 tidbit, we start shooting on January 19th and the first scene takes place 2hrs after the first film ends."
That doesn't mean the whole film is placed directly after the tenement building battle royale. but it does give a hint as to how the movie will begin.
As for filming, Evans and his Indonesian crew were able to turn The Raid around in a relatively short amount of time. Despite the larger budget ($3 million for Berandal as opposed to $1 million for The Raid), I hope Evans can get the sequel finished in time for a TIFF 2013 debut.
