Resident Evil 6

An @TechFixation Review
By Richard Hodges - CEO of TheTechFixation.com

I firmly believe that Capcom was going for a major, knock it out of the park experience with Resident Evil 6.  When it comes to a major title, with such high expectations falling flat, I take a step back to try and rationalize the situation.  Putting myself into the shoes of the developers to figure out what the heck they could have been thinking.  There are several great ideas at work here.  Breaking it down into the very basic fundamentals, game mechanics, upgrades, and sheer delivery.

I distinctively remember being blown away by the mere thought of guiding Leon through his adventure.  Later learning that there were Four! story lines to enjoy, I almost couldn’t stand myself. I was very excited and couldn’t wait to get a copy into my hands. By giving enthusiasts, more of what they crave, is nothing shy of brilliance.

In previous Resident Evil titles, it was more than just a few, getting frustrated with their so called partner.  It was never a big highlight to give the AI functionality.  Another very irritating aspect of other RE titles, is the lack of ability to move while shooting.  Plenty of gamers use the ability to side-step or maybe even a few barrel rolls to avoid incoming attacks.  There are several of these situations we seem to get ourselves into while we feel the need to shoot. Well my friends, Chris Redfield  has finally learned how to multitask! Now if we can just get him to figure out how to pull two levers at once.

The story has an amazing way for delivery.  This particular topic for whatever reason is debatable.  Looking at how each personality was interwoven into such a complex and twisted story.  Others believe that beyond the action sequences and the grueling boss battles, the story, as a whole, was trying to be something that it simply was not. Combining each characters desperate drive to get down to the bottom of the outbreak with a wonderful amount of back story, this game is an Absolute Delight!   Not to mention the greatly welcomed shooting mechanics and stunning soundtrack.

Battling a few 'Javo while on a trek through China
With every highly anticipated major title, there are plenty of topics to chew up and spit out.  Resident Evil 6 is not out of hot water when it comes to flaws.  The franchise originated as a ‘Survival Horror’ genre. Trying its damnedest to continue that idea and at the same time throwing in aspects that make it more of a dramatic experience than anything else.  Any good movie director knows that you can’t have the piece at its climax through the entire show.  The adventure tries to take you quickly from what we all remember, know, and love, to an on the edge of your seat experience right from the start.  Sounds great? The problem is that they are forcing you to the edge of your seat through the entire game.  Some of the sequences you find yourself either lost for various reasons or out-right confused as to where the next objective is located. For the most part it is a linear game, but in the situations where you need to solve a puzzle to continue, you have waves of mutating ‘Javo advancing for your neck! Which forces you to make irrational decisions and you find yourself circling the back alleys of China.

After reading other reviews it seems more and more clear the overall consensus about Resident Evil 6.  Playing the game I personally was able to keep separation from the high points and the less stressful aspects of the game. But, it seems as if this was a big problem for most.  Capcom did act like they were trying to out-do themselves on this one.  It does look like they got in a little over they’re heads on a genre that they aren't that familiar.

With the Major improvements, including the crucial game mechanic upgrades and the multiple story lines all tying to one another, Along! with its few but, indefinite issues it needs to work out, I give

Resident Evil 6 a $45 out of a possible $60
