Sales Are Down

Why Are Video Game Sales Down?

Several studies have shown that the sales of all Video Game software and peripherals are down 11% from this time last year.  Okay, sales are down...Blah Blah Blah. The catchy detail about this story is that analysts predict the decline in sales for the rest of Video Game History!

Why in Gods Name would Sales continuously drop year after bloody year?! Putting myself into their shoes to make some sense of this monstrosity, I find that it makes logical sense that they would be down this year.  Without agreeing with them, think about the number of Digital Downloads vs the number of Software downloads for this year alone. I would much rather own a game, song, or even a movie without having to dance around a mile high stack of cases and manuals.

A group of analysts known as ‘NPD Group’ ran a few comparisons from the previous years and found that in years past it wasn’t much of a difference. It also couldn’t be directly the cause of Digital Downloads. The convenience of being able to stream it to almost any piece of modern day tech. Whether it be a desktop, Apple TV, phone, tablet, or even Laptop isn’t much of an argument after all.

Hitting the right notes!

Some believe that we may be at the peak for console sales.  True or not, we must compare to most recent transition between console generations.  In November of 2005, NPD Group has the video game industry sales 97% lower than that of this year.  A breakdown of this statistic shows that the industry as a whole is simply better at advertising.  The human race is decidedly a much lazier group of people. Leading the industry to an Extreme rise of sales is the experience of the developers.  On average, a company’s developers are much more advanced than that of 2005.

As a result, it may decline but, there will never an absolute drop or shutdown of sales.  Bottom line, the sales of hardware is a must until the day that all of humanity is controlling things with our minds.  Compared to last year, yes, sales have dropped a bit.  Compared to several years ago, sales are outstanding! And will continue to do so. Even as we glide through each generation of consoles.
