All of those things that you feel when you crack into a Mortal Kombat battle are the things that you can look forward to with this intense fighting game. The biggest difference is simply that Dead or Alive 5 is a whole Lot Better! It's a fighting game with a back story, and it's an exhilarating throwback to how games used to be, all while throwing you physically through the floor of a multi-story office complex. And for a cherry on top, it's the first multi-platform entry in the series.
Story Mode - has some very interesting attributes, starting off with a few ʻtouch and goʼ battles, trying to teach you the basic punches and kicks along with crucial timing. Having a grasp on combo's will make each match into a swift and decisive battle! The blocks and holds can cause a gnarly grasp if you don't pay close attention. And on top of that, just when you think youʼll be finishing one storyline, there is a twist thrown at you.
It's always a great deal when you can sit back and bequeath a glowing review. But, knowing that the story mode consuming a mere 5 hours of a beautiful Saturday afternoon bothers me. Granted, the genre isn't typically known for 40+ hours of gameplay, but I was still blown away by how quickly the final battles snuck up. Besides the short play time, the very dull and at times ridiculous reasons to spark a battle can get a pretty farfetched. Touching on the weird, kind of super natural feel some of the fighters have isn't explained at all. By hey, I'm an open minded Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter nerd.
If one were to print out the list of possible moves, it may be long enough to jump rope with! A key game mechanic and an Amazing Feature that Team Ninja implements into the DOA series, is the ability to counter attack. Now it may sound silly but, think for a second. Every possible move can be countered, blocked, or side stepped in some way. This developer technique has been known as a 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' way of competing. This has an astonishing way of wrapping the gamer into another rage to make the battle successful!

All in all, it does have its flaws. But walking in, fully understanding what the given genre provides, you can easily overlook the hiccups in this Tecmo production. Looking back on how the major plot twists to the story interested me, and the Epic stages always keeping me on my toes, I see that Dead or Alive 5 is a solid $30 game.
