Google Files New Patents, Possibly for 'Project Glass'

by Caleb Smith

Google's 'Project Glass' has been a topic of conversation and rumor among the tech crowd for a while now, and as their 2014 release draws near, a couple of developer events will be held, announcing a lot of new features for the futuristic device. Most details are still being held close to the chest, but a patent for a virtual reality control system was filed by Google this week, giving hints as to what the dev events will be announcing.

From what the patent discovered by Unwired View, illustrates a pair of glasses with a holographic control scheme projected onto the user's hand and arm. This isn't verified to be for the Google Glass, but if Google owns it, it most likely will be for the upcoming project. Other patents describe control utilizing temporary tatoos, or special rings that allow gesture controls similar to the Kinect. The 'Figure 1' image is a patent for a tap pad on the side of a pair of glasses. I can't see anybody wearing this in the real world, but Google saw enough in it to patent it. These are just patents, so all we can do for now is use our imaginations as to how these will be used... That is, until Google finally shows us what they have in Febuary.
